Pooch Friends on Hartz - Lucky to Be Caught and Not Bought!

Blog for Pooch Friends on Hartz, Lucky for a Poodle and owner, that the dog was caught and not bought.

Today was overcast with drizzles of rain, but what brought a little ray of sunshine was meeting my new pooch friend on Hartz -- Lucky and her owner Scott.

It was apparent that nothing would cast a cloud over my meeting with this little poodle with a name sake that would mark a change from her unlucky start.

Eight years ago, a visit to a nearby city would take Scott down a unexpected path in life. He was in Oakland, by Lake Merrit, on that serendipitous day, just taking a drive down the street in his car. All of a sudden he spotted a large dog on the sidewalk and there in the middle of this busy street was a frantic little poodle.

Obviously, lost and scared, she ran onto the sidewalk and out in the middle of the road again. With cars coming dangerously close to hitting her, it was clear to Scott this little poodle was in trouble. In this little dog’s attempts to avoid the cars, she darts back up onto the sidewalk, but fear takes over and she ran down a side street in between two houses.

By this time, there were two people trying to get this little pooch to safety. Finally, Scott and the second party, a woman, walked toward this scared little pooch and she picked her up. Afterward, making sure that the frightened, little poodle was unharmed, she looked at Scott and said “Sorry, I can’t take her, you can have her.”

So Scott, the second person to hold her, would be the first to receive the most special gift of all: The companionship of man’s best friend. Because our little pooch friend was lucky to be alive, the word lucky became a name that would stick to the dog like the dog would stick to her new master.

Soon thereafter, Scott brought his rescue dog home and initially giving it to his mother, to which she immediately replied “no” to his generosity, so he said “OK, I will keep her.” After this, his mom gave Lucky a bath and cleaned her up, she had a change of heart. By then it was too late, and although she didn’t get the dog, she did get thanks for the bath.

If you have been considering a poodle you may want to consider researching information on the breed. According to Dog-Obedience-Training-Review.com, http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/poodle-training.html.

“Poodles are a wonderful human companion dog.” Where owners view these dogs as being “something very special and rarely change their allegiance to any other breed of dog.” In addition, they are “extremely versatile,” most intelligent dog breeds, good natured with a beautiful even temperament and thrive on human companionship.

The many desirable qualities of the poodle has made them one of the most popular of all pure breed dogs. One of the “oldest” pure bred dogs since the 16th century.

Also, the breed was “highly sought after for their outstanding hunting ability.“ Furthermore,” Poodles are an athletic, well-balanced dog with a sturdy, muscular build. There are three different varieties of Poodle, toy, miniature and the standard poodle. http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/poodle-training.html

This story has a happy ending, and one never knows, you may receive a call to action to rescue man’s best friend. However, as the historical relationship between dog and man has shown, the dog saves us right back with love, loyalty and companionship. How lucky for Scott, that “Lucky” was caught and not bought!
