A Good Turnout Despite A Breezy Start to Danville's Downtown Summer Street Festivals

Despite an un-summerlike chill in the air, hundreds in the community headed downtown for the first of downtown Danville's summertime street festivals Thursday night.

The calendar may say it is July, but you could have fooled the people who gathered downtown to enjoy the first Danville Thursday Night Street Festival of the summer this week.

Although it was breezy and a little chilly, hundreds were undeterred from strolling the closed-to-traffic streets, shopping the featured vendors, listening to music, or taking the opportunity to dine al fresco.

Organized and hosted by the Discover Danville merchant association, the festival invited visitors to "Shop Local, Dine Local, and Play Local," showcasing nearly sixty local businesses, including , , , , Bling It On, and more.

Salons, jewelry and fashion vendors, several martial arts schools, chiropractors, and fitness studios met festival goers, providing entertaining demonstrations, and free massages and balloons, hoping to gain new customers from the community.

Bistro dining areas hosted by five local restaurants—, , , , and /— offered outside dining options from hot dogs and pizza to gourmet fare.

Two beer and wine gardens, carefully monitored by security personnel, were filled with festival goers sampling local varieties, while chatting and enjoying the atmosphere, and listening to music.

Three music stages featured two live bands — John Wayne Zink Rock N' Roll Project and 2 Endeavor Band—and DJs from A Positive Spin.

Kids were encouraged to get artistic with a chalk drawing station, ride the Museum of the San Ramon Valley's miniature train, or bounce it out in a popular jumpy house in designated kid zones.

And no downtown festival is complete without a fire engine. San Ramon Valley Fire Station 31 and the Danville Police Department were on hand to show junior deputies and firefighters the big ladder truck and a police mustang, as well as provide community safety information.

Four legged visitors weren't left out either, and competed in a doggie parade and costume contest as well.

Those who missed the festival this time will have another opportunity to join in the fun when the second Thursday Night Street Festival takes place on August 11.
