UPDATE: Danville Man Killed in Head-on Crash Was a Web Designer

BAY CITY NEWS

A 25-year-old man killed in a head-on crash near Castro Valley was
an alumnus from Ex'pression College in Emeryville who worked in web design.

Geoffrey Mapplebeck, of Danville, was in a black 1998 Saab on southbound Crow Canyon Road about a mile north of Norris Canyon Road around 4 p.m. when he veered into the northbound lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He crashed into a 61-year-old Castro Valley resident who was the driver and only occupant in a 2007 Subaru Forester.

Mapplebeck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Subaru driver was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley with a broken leg, according to the CHP.

Mapplebeck graduated from Ex'pression College with a degree in game art and design in 2011, his program director Ty Carriere said this afternoon.

He remembered Mapplebeck as a "fun student" who was "definitely excited about the work that he did. He was happy to be here."

Since graduating, Mapplebeck created and was the head of a Danville-based website design firm and search engine team, according to the site eWebsiteServices.

According to his Facebook profile, he graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in Danville in 2007.

The crash is under investigation, however it appears Mapplebeck may have been speeding before the crash, according to the CHP.
