Danville Girl Takes Her Golden Voice To The Diamond

St. Isidore student Avery Chapman will realize her dream in July when sings the National Anthem at a Giants game.

Singer Brad Paisley or Giants catcher Buster Paisley? Both are superstars in their arenas. Both are heartthrobs to their legions of female fans. So who's your favorite?

It's not an easy choice, even for Danville's Avery Chapman. She could soon have the chance to meet Posey. And she hopes to follow Paisley's path to stardom.

"I don't know what I'd do without music," the Danville 11-year-old said. "It's 99 percent of my life. I love hearing music around me."

Chapman will have the chance to combine two of her passions when she sings the National Anthem before the San Francisco Giants game on July 22. The Giants will take on the Cincinnati Reds at AT&T Park.

Chapman has plenty of experience singing before crowds. She's performed the National Anthem at youth football games and Stockton Thunder minor league hockey games. This is her first time with the Giants, though.

"I'm really excited," the St. Isidore 7th grader said. "I've always wanted to sing at a Giants game. They're my favorite team."

Chapman submitted a DVD of her a cappella performance of the anthem to the Giants and waited anxiously to hear back from the team.

"They had 1,600 tapes to go through and it took them a while. They asked if I'd be available on July 22 and I said sure," Chapman recalled.

Alone in her room or standing before 20,000 people, Chapman is always singing, it seems.

Chapman surrounds herself with music whenever she can. If she's not singing along with Paisley or Carrie Underwood on the radio, then she's humming whatever tune is running through her head.

"I've got a couple of songs written down. … I've got some tunes in my head that I wrote down," Chapman said.

Chapman hopes to perform one of those songs for a national audience someday … perhaps on American Idol.

"That's one of my goals," she said.
