Sprouts & Shutters: That Bar Changing Name and Theme

That Bar is being revitalized as an Irish/Sports pub

On St. Patrick's Day, a Danville bar will try its luck of the Irish.

That Bar is changing its name to McGah's Pub and Piano Bar and will operate with a sports as well as an Irish theme.

The grand opening will naturally be on March 17.

The bar, located at 148 E. Prospect Ave., will continue to have dueling pianos on Friday and Saturday evenings.

However, the rest of the week it will focus on sports and Irish heritage.

That combination comes from the owners, the McGah family.

The McGah's family roots in the Bay Area go back 115 years.

E.W. McGah was born in 1899 and was a businessman in Alameda in the 1930s. However, his claim to fame is that he was a co-founder of the Oakland Raiders. He was a general partner with the football team until his death in 1983.

His son, E.J. McGah, played for the Boston Red Sox in the 1940s, rooming with Hall of Fame outfielder Ted Williams and participating on one pennant-winning team.

Sherratt Reicher, E.J.'s grandson, was a defensive assistant and scout for the Raiders until 2002. He has run the family's estate and business ventures since then.

David Allred, the bar manager at McGah's, said the new pub is Reicher's tribute to his family's Irish and sports heritage.
