Tom Abate is Brooklyn native who migrated to California when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later attended UC Berkeley and also earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He has lived in the East Bay since 1992 and has raised three children here. Prior to joining Patch, Tom was a reporter and columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
