Tree Branch, Equipment Failure Cause Power Outages Affecting 8,400 Monday (Poll)

Add it all up and 8,400 PG&E customers were without power for two chunks of the day Monday.

It started at noon when a tree trimming crew in the downtown Danville area dropped a tree branch on a collection of lines, , PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian told Danville patch Tuesday.

The early afternoon outage was mainly along southbound Railroad Avenue, south of . The outage also knocked out power to district five schools, including SRV, and many of the businesses along southbound Railroad Avenue.

Schools remained in session without interruption, District Community Relations Director Terry Koehne said Monday during the outage.

By 1 p.m., nearly all of the power was restored.

A handful of hours later, at 7:30 p.m., another outage hit Danville and Blackhawk. This time along Blackhawk Road. The cause was a faulty cable, Sarkissian said. This outage was much larger, .

Power was fully restored around 9:20 p.m., she said.

"A section of the cable failed. Power was restored (Monday) night," she said. "The cable was repaired (Tuesday) morning."
