Fried oreos and pickles aren't enough to get you to the fair this year?
Come June 20th, you'll get your chance to learn about the culture of the Alameda County Fair. This year marks its 100th anniversary.
Something new at the fairgrounds will be Festival Square, a cafe-esque set up complete with chairs, dancing and all that imbibes the culture of the Alameda County Fair. Nearby restaurants will be featuring their foods while local artists will be showcasing their work.
Be a part of history and purchase a brick that will be displayed at the Alameda County Historical Monument or peruse the memoribilia available symbolizing the fair's most tributed moments.
Opening weekend will include a hat contest -- come with your most unique hat creation and win some cash or ride tickets for the youth contest. The fair will also have a BBQ cook-off, mystery cookie contest and gumbo contest to name a few.
While we can appreciate the fried oreos and snowcones the fair is known for, we'll be able to take a closer look at how the fair came to be. Get your sunblock ready and come out with your family to help celebrate local history in the making.
