Wolves Have Field Day at Meet of Champs in Sacramento

San Ramon Valley High Track and Field set two school records over the weekend, taking first place in the Men's 4x400 relay.

Track and field athletes from San Ramon Valley High School competed in 18 individual and four relay events at the 30th Meet of Champions in Sacramento Saturday.

The all-day event, which drew competitors from high schools across Northern California, was held at Sacramento City College's Hughes Stadium.

New school records were set during the event. Sarah Griffith had a time of 56.32 in the Women's Invitational 400 meters.  The Men's Invitational team of Ian Davis, Kevin Griffith, Ian Padilla Jong and Garrett Storms finished the 4x400-meter relay in 3:18.76.

"Anytime you have a meet where you set two school records and just barely miss a third, plus have five additions or updates to your school's top 10 all-time lists, then you know it's been a great meet," said coach Tim Stevens. "From start to finish, we had a great meet as a team."

Other outstanding performances included a 2nd place for Kevin Griffith in the Invitational 1,600 meters and 3rd for Dan Davis in the Invitational 400-meter race. Freshman Matt Devries nailed a 2nd in the Frosh/Soph boys' 3,200 meters.

Stevens said the team has worked hard all year, and it's paying off.

"I think you're going to see even better times and marks as we move into East Bay Athletic League, North Coast Section, and even state competition," says Stevens.
