Tri-Valley Wins State Championship

The team won against Woodland Thursday night, 3-2.

The Tri-Valley 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth All-Stars won the State Championship last night 3-2 against Woodland.

It was a very close game, according to Darren Funkhouser, who was featured along with his son in a previous Patch story.

The team will now travel to Vernal, Utah to compete in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament on July 28, with a chance to make it to the Babe Ruth League World Series. The competition for the 13-year-old league is held this year in Williston, N.D. in August.

In 2012, the Tri-Valley 13-Year-Old team made it to the world series but were ousted in the semi-finals against Greenville, N.C. Despite the defeat, the team's Dante Albanese won the league's batting champion award.

The Tri-Valley Babe Ruth League has an impressive history. The league boasts five World Series, and has had 10 teams total compete in the series since 2002.
