The United States women's water polo team let a late lead slip away as it tied Spain 9-9 in its second Olympic match on Wednesday.
Danville's Maggie Steffens scored once with a goal in the second quarter to make the score 4-3 Spain. It was her eighth goal of the tournamnet after scoring an Olympic record-trying seven goals in her first match against Hungary.
The U.S. scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to take a 9-6 lead, but Spain scored three times in the final three minutes to tie the score at nine.
Maggie's sister Jessica played about nine minutes.
The Americans are still in first place in their group and will play China in their final group match Friday.
