In one of the biggest rivalries in the East Bay Athletic League, Monte Vista crossed I-680 and entered Wolves territory.

Last year, San Ramon Valley won 32-28 in a thriller to take the trophy back to the west side of the valley. Although San Ramon was favored to win, they haven't won at home against Monte Vista for more than 10 years.

San Ramon Valley started strong against Monte Vista securing a lead by halftime, 23-7.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, the Mustangs started to come alive in the third quarter. After a successful two-point conversion, Monte Vista tied the score 23-23 with 23 seconds left in the third. Marcus De La Pena scored on a 27 yard run to go ahead.

The Wolves defense stepped up forcing a three and out. San Ramon then went in for the kill, taking more than five minutes off the clock and scoring on a 34 yard field goal.

After failing on a fourth down attempt, San Ramon took the ball over and lined up in victory formation.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock and the score read 33-23, the Wolf Pack joined the team on the field in celebration of a win on senior night and beating their crosstown rivals on home turf.

(6) San Ramon Valley (6-4, 5-1 EBAL) advances to the NCS Division 1 playoffs with a game against (11) San Leandro (6-4, 5-0 WACC-F) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Burrell Field in San Leandro.

Monte Vista (2-8, 1-5 EBAL) ended their season finishing second to last in League and failing to make the playoffs.
