For the second consecutive week, the Monte Vista High football community will be selling Kenyon Youngstrom wristbands at their home football game Friday.
The $5 wristbands will be sold with all the money going to an account for the Youngstrom family. The wristbands are highway patrol colors, with Youngstrom's name, his badge number and the CHP star.
Youngstrom, a California Highway Patrol officer, died last month when he was shot during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Alamo.
"I felt compelled to do something," said Katherine Thomas, whose son is on the football team and organized the fundraiser. "It happened almost literally on our doorstep and, like him, I also have four kids and family members that are officers."
It's a big game too. Monte Vista is playing cross-town rival San Ramon Valley in the final regular season game of the year. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
