NCS Basketball Quarterfinal Battles Tonight

Boys and girls teams from all over the East Bay to try to advance to the next round of the tournament

The battle under the boards will continue tonight as the second round of the North Coast Section basketball tournament gets under way.

In the boys Division I bracket, top seed De La Salle High will play ninth seed Heritage at the Spartans court, beginning at 8 p.m. De La Salle (24-2) had a bye in the first round while Heritage (17-10) defeated Berkeley.

In one of the most competitive contests of the evening, fifth seeded Monte Vista High will take on fourth seeded Castro Valley High at the Trojans' gym, beginning at 8 p.m. Castro Valley (20-6) had a bye in the first round while Monte Vista (20-7) defeated James Logan High.

Seventh seeded San Leandro High travels to Deer Valley High for their quarterfinal match, starting at 8 p.m. Deer Valley (19-7) had a bye in the first round while the Pirates (21-6) defeated Granada High. The winner will play the victor of the Freedom High vs. Liberty High game in the semifinals next Wednesday.

In the girls Division I bracket, eighth seeded Foothill High travels to top seeded Berkeley High for a 7 p.m. game. Berkeley (23-2) had a bye in the first round. The Falcons (15-12) defeated Granada High.

Fourth seeded Castro Valley High will play host for a 6:30 p.m. game against fifth seed Heritage High. The Trojans (20-7) beat Pittsburg High in the first round while Heritage (23-4) knocked off Livermore High.

Second seeded Deer Valley High will be at home for a 6:30 p.m. game against 10th seeded Amador Valley High. Deer Valley (19-7) had a bye in the first round. Amador Valley (17-10) upset Logan High in the first round.

Sixth seeded Monte Vista High travels to third seeded Mission San Jose High for a 7 p.m. game. Mission San Jose (26-2) defeated Liberty High in the first round while the Mustangs (22-5) eliminated Santa Rosa High.

In the boys Division II bracket, top seeded Newark Memorial High will host a 1 p.m. Saturday game against ninth seeded Mt. Eden High. Newark Memorial (23-4) defeated Dougherty Valley High in the first round while Mt. Eden beat Clayton Valley High.

In another competitive match, fourth seeded Las Lomas High will be at home for a 7 p.m. Friday game against fifth seed Dublin High. Las Lomas (18-9) defeated Redwood High in the first round. The Gaels knocked off Rancho Cotate High.

Eleventh seeded Concord High travels to third seed College Park High for another 7 p.m. game. College Park (19-8) beat Casa Grande High in the first round while the Minutemen (18-9) upset Montgomery High. The victor plays the winner of the Windsor High vs. Maria Carrillo High match in the semifinals on Wednesday.

In the girls Division II bracket, top seeded Carondelet High will face off against eighth seeded Northgate High in a 6:30 p.m. game at De La Salle High. The Cougars (23-2) had a bye in the first round while Northgate (15-12) edged Hayward High. The winner will play the victor of the Maria Carrillo High vs. Alameda High match in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Second seeded Dougherty Valley High will play host in a 7 p.m. game against seventh seeded Montgomery High. The Wildcats (19-8) crushed Newark Memorial High in the first round while Montgomery (22-7) defeated Clayton Valley High.

Third seeded Dublin High travels to sixth seed Casa Grande High for a 7 p.m. game. Casa Grande (28-1) defeated Arroyo High in the first round while Dublin (18-8) beat Redwood High.
