Chelsea Barry's powerful shot into the corner coming off a corner kick gave the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead and a Christina Nuti goal made it 2-0, which proved to be enough.

Summer Stamates added a goal to round out the scoring.

The Mavericks play the Coeur d'Alene Sting Wednesday, which will be coming off a 4-0 loss to the San Diego Surf White.

"I want to see us have a more attacking style tomorrow," coach Pat Uriz said.

The Mavericks will be without center back Kathryn Rodd, who fractured her arm Tuesday and will be out the remainder of the tournament.

"She's a very valuable part of our team and its unfortunate what happend," Uriz said.

Under-14 — Mustang Fury 4, Arsenal FC 1

In a game featuring two of the top sides in the nation, the Fury sent a message that not only are they a serious threat to win the Far West Regional, but have a team that could possibly challenge for a national title later in the summer.

The Fury kept possession for the game's first five minutes before Allie Dutto scored an unassisted goal after making a run down the side right side.

"She's a very fast, strong player and the other teams know who she is," coach Chad Harper said. "A lot of teams put their best players on her, but she was able to get around a player and rip a shot."

The goal set the tone for what turned into a dominant performance by the Fury.

Mustang controlled the possession for much of the next 10 minutes before going up 2-0 on a Haley Lukas'  third goal of the regional, which was assisted by Melissa Lewis.

After taking the 2-0 lead into the half, Alex Weltz made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half to seal the victory for the Fury. Arsenal was able to make it 3-1, but Lewis added a goal to round out the scoring.

"The win says a lot about the style of soccer we're playing," Harper said. "There are a lot of teams with good players and good athletes, but we are a very good soccer team."

Harper pointed to Madison Castelein's job marking Arsenal's top striker as a key to the defensive effort which limited the scoring chances of a team Harper called the best team in the country on Monday.

"I think we have confidence right now and are believing in the system," he said.

After spending a few days in Tahoe trying to aclimate to a high altitude environment last week, the Fury responded well on Tuesday.

"Everything went right for us today," Harper said.

The win secured the Fury a spot in the next round, but it doesn't get any easier on Wednesday with a game against a Sereno (Ariz.) team which beat the Fury 2-0 in the teams' last meeting.

Coach: Chad Harper

Monday: Fury 3, Magic City (Montana 0. Final.

Tuesday: vs Arsenal FC-WCS (So. California), 4 p.m.

Wednesday: vs Sereno 96 White (Arizona), 2 p.m.

Under-15 — Mustang Blast 2, Leahi 95 Premier (Hawaii) 1

The Blast secured their place in the single-elimination portion of the tournament with a hard-fought win against Leahi of Hawaii.

"We new today was going to be a diffcult game coming off an emotional win on Monday (against the So Cal Blues)," coach Neil McGuire said. "The fatigue level was high, but we played very well."

Ryan Walker of Bishop O'Dowd High scored the game's first goal for the Blast in teh 15th minute after a nice build up that allowed her to get off a shot into the lower corner of the goal.

Stephanie Amack of Dougherty Valley High followed that up with a tap in off a corner kick to put the Blast up 2-0 last in the first half.

Leahi fought back in the second half, but despite allowing a goal with 20 minutes left in the Blast held on to secure their place in the next round.

With just 13 field players on the roster, the Blast won't have a chance to rest its players against Arsenal FC tomorrow, but McGuire said knowing they are through takes some of the pressure off.

"We'd like to be first in our group which would give us the opportunity to play the second-place team from the other group," McGuire said. "But we can relax a little bit and work on keeping better possession and creating better goal scoring opportunities."

The Blast and Arsenal have played each other several times over the past two years and McGuire believes it'll be a good test for the team at this point in the tournament.

Head coach: Neil McGuire

Monday: Blast 3, So Cal Blues - WCS (So. California) 0. Final.

Tuesday: Blast 2, Leahi 95 Premier (Hawaii) 1. Final.

Wednesday: vs Arsenal FC (So. California), 10 a.m.

Under-16 — Mustang Rampage 2, Neusport FC 94 Green (Nevada) 0

Briana Gaines scored the game-winner 15 minutes into the game on a strike from 20 yards out as the Rampage took an important step toward getting out of group play.

Starting goaltender, University of Oregon-bound Abby Steele, was given a red card for taking out a Neusport striker 40 yards from the goal — a play that coach Joe Owen said saved a goal.

"It was a good foul that would have been a goal otherwise," he said.

Her replacement, Dorsa Ansari of Carondelet, was phenomenal off the bench keeping a clean slate.

Playing a man down, the Rampage was still able to extend its lead on a Sami Schrakamp goal with 10 minutes left in the game.

A tie on Wednesday against the New Mexico Nike 94G will send the Rampage through in second place, while a win would secure first place in the group.

Owen has never seen the New Mexico team play, but based on his scouting reports believes he'll see a sound defensive team with a couple talented players up top.

Head coach: Joe Owen

Schedule

Monday: Rampage 2, Sereno 94 White (Arizona) 2. Final.

Tuesday: Rampage 2,  Neusport FC 94 Green (Nevada) 0. Final.

Wednesday: vs NM Rush Nike 94G (New Mexico), noon
