Monte Vista Girls Defeat San Ramon Valley For NCS Soccer Title

The Mustangs scored the lone goal in the second half to capture the Division I crown

The Monte Vista High girls soccer team upset number one seeded San Ramon Valley High, 1-0, Saturday evening to become the North Coast Section Division I champions.

With a loss and a tie to the Wolves during the regular season, the second ranked Mustangs made their third meeting count.

After a lackluster first half from both teams, Monte Vista picked up the intensity in the second half.

Their relentless charge paid off with a goal in the 72nd minute by Maddy Gibson, who put the ball in after a deflection by Wolves goalie Beth Ritter.

San Ramon had a tough night, missing two open goals off the goal post. Some outstanding goalkeeping by Ritter prevented a lopsided Mustangs win.
