Monte Vista Boys Soccer Team Defeats De La Salle

Submitted by Elizabeth Elisha

The Monte Vista Men’s Soccer Team hosted De La Salle Thursday night, and not only the soccer players contributed to the game.

There is a three year tradition where at the start of each home Varsity Soccer game, the National Anthem is sung by students from the fantastic MVHS Chorus. Support from their fellow students adds to their success on the field, and 16 minutes into the game, Monte Vista scored. Charles Zaloumis handled the ball past the defense, kept control, and put the only score on the board for the whole game.

De La Salle had three good chances to score during the final 20 minutes, but Monte Vista stayed strong. Grady Nelson tried to score, but MV goalie Nick Pelligrini tipped the ball away. Player Joey Jones had two chances but Pelligrini scooped one up and Mitchell Peterson stopped the second attempt.

Monte Vista's next home game is January 16th at 6 p.m. against Foothill High and January 21st at 6:30 p.m. against San Ramon Valley High.
