Local Runners Compete In State Cross Country Championships

San Ramon Valley and Amador Valley runners finish fifth in their races

Local high school cross country runners competed in the state championships last weekend with two athletes finishing fifth in their divisions.

The 3.1 mile races were held Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

In the boys Division I race, De La Salle High, which won the NCS title, finished 17th and Amador Valley High finished 20th. The top local runner was Evan Molineux of De La Salle, who finished 64th with a time of 16:15.

In the girls Division I competition, Granada High, the NCS champion, finished eighth while Amador Valley finished 14th. The top local runner was Amador Valley's Jena Planin, who came in fifth with a time of 18:03.

In the boys Division II race, San Ramon Valley High, the NCS champion, came in 10th. The top local runner was the Wolves' Parker Deuel, who finished fifth with a time of 15:27.

In the girls Division II competition, San Ramon Valley High came in 20th. The top local runner was freshman Christine Bayliss, who finished 12th in a time of 18:05.

In the girls Division III race, Las Lomas ended up in 16th place. Their top runner was Clare Orton, who came in 51st with a time of 19:23.

In the boys Division V race, the Athenian school in Danville finished ninth. Their top runner was Gabriel Elliott, who came in 23rd with a time of 16:36.
