Kids Don't Have to Leave Town to Have Fun This Summer

Check out these summer camps around Danville to help keep the kiddies entertained when school is out.

Looking for something to entertain the kids this summer? No need to send them away to summer camp, there are lots of half and full-day camps in town to keep tots to teens, busy.  Here are just a few of the many options this summer.

Arts and Crafts Camps: Comic Book Kids

Comic Book Kids is a day camp that teaches kids how to design their own hardback comic book and poster.

This camp teaches kids healthy eating habits with a focus on Chinese cooking.

Foreign Language Camps: Summer Fun Learning Spanish

With a focus on Spanish immersion and conversational Spanish, kids will learn a new language and culture while making Mexican food and piñatas.

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 21 to June 25 and August 2 to August 6.

Who: Ages 5 through 11

Performing Arts Camps: Musical Performance

If you have a fan of "Glee" or "High School Musical" in your home, check out the musical performance camps sponsored by the town. Kids will learn songs and dances from Disney's "High School Musical" 1, 2 and 3, with a performance at the end of camp.

When: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 1 to June 25.

Science Camps: Mad Science

Kids will learn about gardening from planting seedlings to full bloom, as well as the importance of sun, rain an insects to a happy garden.

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday July 12 to July 16.

Who: Kids ages 3 ½ through 6

Let your kids learn about a new outdoor activity like SCUBA diving, gymnastics,  golf, cheer-leading, flag football, lacrosse and more.

Teen Camps: Babysitting for Beginners

Babysitting for beginners is a teen camp that teaches safety strategies, discipline through role-playing, and ideas for games and crafts with kids.

When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Thursday June 14 to June 17.

Blackhawk Country Club: Tennis Camps and Clinics

The Blackhawk Country Club has half-day summer camp programs for tennis instruction.

Spectrum of Science Foundation, San Ramon Valley Unified School District:

Let your child explore their inner scientist as they learn about the sea, space, physics and more.

Champions Science Adventures

This week-long camp will let kids explore the Mystery of the Pharaoh's Treasure,  Space and Rocketry, and Gizmo's Robot Factory.

Camp Galileo

Voted "Best Camp for Kids" in Bay Area Parent magazine and "The San Francisco Bay Guardian," Camp Galileo is a summer day camp for kids in pre-school to fifth grade. The four-week curriculum includes Ocean Expeditions, Mission to the Moon and Psychedelic '60s, Amusement Park Engineers, Medieval Art and Adventures in Flight and Egyptian Art.

Camp Socrates—Stratford School

This academic day camp will prepare your youngster for starting school again in the fall. Levels include pre-school to kindergarten, with classes offered in four or seven week sessions. Campers can choose to attend two, three, or five days a week. There is a 10 percent price break for registered siblings.

Camp Gan Israel

At Camp Gan Israel, kids in preschool to sixth grade participate in crafts, archery, music, gymnastics, swimming and more, with special field trip days on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the Bay Area. Counselor-in-training camps are also offered for seventh and eight graders.
