East Bay Football Stars to Take on Sacramento's Best at Monte Vista

The annual Holiday Classic all star football game will feature some of the area's top high school football players.

Some of the best football players from Northern California will take to the gridiron for one last high school football game on Friday in the 2011 Holiday Classic.

The annual all-star game pits a team of the East Bay's best seniors against a team made up of Sacramento’s best. It will take place at at 7 p.m.

Monte Vista coach Craig Bergman will coach the East Bay team along with some of his assistants and other coaches from the area including former coach , who is now the athletic director at Cal High.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and is free for kids 5-and-under.

“We’re a little scared and we’re very excited to see if the East Bay fans can fill the place like they do in Sacramento,” said Matt Williams, the game’s executive director. “If we get a good turnout, the game will rotate between the East Bay and Sacramento every year.

It had previously been held at Grant High in Sacramento.

Some notable players in the Friday’s game include standout running back Demariay Drew, Cal receiver Armani Washington, Monte Vista receiver Dan Scritchfield and linebacker Andrew Ve’e. 

The East Bay team’s quarterbacks are Eddie Heard of Oakland’s McClymonds High and Cal’s Kevin Farley.

During halftime, there will be a performance from Tora Woloshin, of X-Factor fame, who flew in from Arizona to sing.

“I’m a big X-Factor fan and thought, ‘I wonder if we could get her to perform,’” Williams said.

Sure enough, Williams was able to track her down to perform.
