Danville Teams Win Inaugural "Chachi Corral" Memorial Baseball Tournament

The tournament was in memory of Joshua "Chachi" Corral, the Danville Marine who died in Afghanistan last November.

There isn't anything out of the ordinary about kids playing baseball in the summer, but what made a baseball tournament in Danville last week special was the cause the kids were playing for.

Danville Little League hosted the inaugural "Chachi Corral" Memorial Tournament for 10-year-old All-Stars from around the area last week.

The tournament was in memory of , the Danville Marine who died in Afghanistan last November. Corral played on all-star baseball teams while growing up.

The tournament was split up into two divisions, with a Danville team winning both tournaments.

Joshua's brother Christian played for the Danville "B" team, which beat Livermore in the final for the championship last Thursday.

"I don't have to tell you how sweet that victory was for Christian, our family and for the Danville players and their families," Denise Corral said in an email. "That was a story ook ending for all of us because you only get one shot at each age group for all-stars and what a way to close out the first annual Chachi tourney."

Afer Christian's team won, both teams were given dog tags instead of trophies, that said either first or second place.

"My husband and I placed the tag over the head of each player from both teams as their name was called out by their coach," Denise said.
