Danville's Kyle Weiss Receives 'Nobel Prize for Child Advocates' Award

For his work to donate soccer equipment and fields around the world, Danville's Kyle Weiss received the World of Children Award in New York City on Thursday night.

A Danville teen received the one of the most prestigious awards a teenager can receive on Thursday night.

Kyle Weiss, 19, received the World of Children Award, dubbed the “Nobel Prize for Child Advocates,” for his nonprofit FUNDaFIELD.

He was given the award at the World of Children Award Gala in New York City where more than 400 guests turned out to honor him and his fellow honorees, including actress Stephanie March, actor Matthew Settle, CNN's Alina Cho, Glamour magazine's Cindi Leive and Geraldo Rivera to name a few.

“I was shocked because I totally didn’t expect it,” Weiss said of the award to Patch earlier this month. “It was such an honor. It is crazy because there are lots of great organizations out there. I hope to continue to inspire.”

The award was given to Weiss for his work abroad, specifically in countries touched by some sort of conflict or major trauma.

Along with brother, Weiss donated equipment and worked with locals to build soccer fields. The organization plans to expand to Swaziland, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pader in Northern Uganda and Haiti.

Since World of Children was founded in 1998, the World of Children Award has provided $5 million in cash grants and program support to honorees who run organizations serving more than 140 countries.
