The Bottom Line: The Wolves withstood Logan's hot shooting in the second half to eliminate the Colts from the North Coast Section playoffs for the second-straight year.

It didn't really matter what type of schematic changes James Logan High boys basketball coach Chris Fortenberry made Tuesday, the Colts were simply outmatched on the road against San Ramon Valley in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

When the Colts packed it in with a zone defense in the first half, San Ramon made them pay from the perimeter. When they switched to man-to-man, the Wolves were off to the races with their preferred transititon game.

It eventually added up to a 69-55 win for third-seeded San Ramon (25-2), which advances to Friday's quarterfinal round where it will host No. 6 Deer Valley.

Logan trailed by as many as 20 points early in the second half, but thanks largely to the hot shooting of senior Larry Jones, the Colts trimmed the deficit to eight by the end of the third quarter. Jones hit three of Logan's five 3s in the quarter and finished with a game-high 29 points.

After withstanding Logan's 26-point fourth quarter, San Ramon kept its cool. Point guard Jordan Giusti made sure of that.

"I really like his game," Fortenberry said of Giusti. "He never gets rattled."

And Tollefsen?

"I've been watching him for four years now," Fortenberry said. "He's 6-10 and shoots the three? He causes so many matchup problems. Especially against us because don't have a lot of height."

Logan closed the gap to 60-53 with just over a minute to play, but by then it was pretty much over. The Colts were forced to foul and San Ramon was 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the final minute.

Despite the team's high-scoring second half, Jones said something was just off.

"Our team just wasn't feeling it tonight," he said. "We were trying to put points on the board, but it took us awhile to get going. It's always tough playing in an away gym you're not used to."

The Wolves got a solid effort from Bryan Marvin, who scored 13 points and displayed a nice shooting tough. Marvin scored nine of San Ramon's final 12 points in the first half as a part of a 16-2 run.

"He's the x-factor," Giusti said. "He can do that or he can go an entire game withouth scoring and be there for us at the end."

Dave Dobrynski played well coming off an injury for San Ramon.
