Michelin Starred Chef to Visit Rakestraw

Rakestraw Books in Danville welcomes Chef David Kinch of the acclaimed two-Michelin star Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos for a special signing of his first cookbook at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21

In Manresa: An Edible Reflection, Kinch shares the inspirations and techniques behind the food of Manresa—a restaurant with a distinctive focus on the terroir of Northern California.

He released the book in October 2013, which was number 19 on the New York Times “Best Sellers List.”

Since opening Manresa in Los Gatos in 2002, Kinch has done more to create a sense of place through his food—specifically where the Santa Cruz Mountains meet the sea—than any other chef on the West Coast. Influenced by French and modern Catalan cooking, Kinch finds inspiration from European traditions and refinement, American ingenuity, and the vast bounty California offers.

His pursuit for exceptional products inspired an exclusive partnership with Love Apple Farms, where most ingredients for Manresa are grown.

Although he was born in Philadelphia, Kinch was raised in New Orleans, a city with a rich and distinctive culinary history that had a lasting impact on him.

Manresa   has   held   two   Michelin   stars   for   eight consecutive years. In 2012, it was named one of Restaurant Magazine and San Pellegrino’s “Top 50 Best Restaurants in the World.”

In 2011, Kinch was named “Chef of the Year” by GQ magazine and in 2010, he received the “Best Chef: Pacific” award from the James Beard Foundation. This year, Bon Appetit called Manresa one of the “20 Most Important Restaurants in America.”
