Who Was the Citizen of the Year?

And who was a great teacher, who made a great success at business and which nonprofit made a substantial contribution to the community?

You can go ahead and post a comment right here with your choice for Danville's citizen of the year, or educator, business person and charitable organization of the year. 

As it happens, we got the idea to ask the question because the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce is asking it. The organization is seeking nominations for its annual community awards, which it will give out at a Feb. 23 ceremony to install incoming chamber board president Jonathan Watts. 

, the chamber honored realtor Paulina Pulliam McGill as top citizen for her life membership in the One Hundred Club, which provides benefits for families of fallen police officers and firefighters.

The Citizen of the Year award goes to a San Ramon Valley resident who has made a significant contribution to the Danville community -- notably in the past two years -- by volunteering, providing service to community groups and demonstrating leadership. 

The 2010 Educator of the Year was  music teacher Bruce Koliha. This recipient sets high academic and personal standards for students and works to enhance their self-esteem by encouraging them to strive for excellence.

The Business Person of the Year is an active Chamber of Commerce member who succeeds professionally while finding a balance between business, civic contribution and family. Last year's recipient was Gordon Clarke, owner of , who was also recognized for his contributions to local schools and the organization STAND! For Families Free of Violence.

The  was honored as Charitable Organization of the Year. The Danville-based nonprofit group was honored for 12 years of service to adults and children with Down Syndrome.
