San Ramon Valley Educator Named State Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist

Contra Costa Office of Education Release

Contra Costa County's Cindy Egan, a science teacher at San Ramon Valley High, was named a California State semi-finalist Teacher of the Year on Nov. 4.

Egan was named the county's teacher of the year along with West Contra Costa Unified School District's Beth Levine, a teacher at Montalvin Manor Elementary.

In 1972, California began recognizing outstanding teachers, establishing the Teachers of the Year Program. The program is open to all teachers in public and private schools who teacher pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Contra Costa County has participated in the program since its beginning, when Joseph E. Davis, Jr., of the Acalanes Union High School District, was named the county's first representative.

Egan teaches AP Environmental Science and Intro to Engineering at San Ramon Valley High, according to the school's website.

Prior to teaching, Egan was a civil engineer for 25 years.
