Nick Jones Leaving Castro Valley, Coming Back to Monte Vista

Renowned high school basketball coach Nick Jones is leaving Castro Valley to return to where it started, Monte Vista.

News came across the Twittersphere yesterday that Nick Jones, the Castro Valley High School basketball coach that transformed that team into a force in the Bay Area, was coming back to his roots to coach basketball at .

Jones started his basketball career on the court in the 1990s at Monte Vista, where he starred, and on the sidelines, where he started his coaching career.

“We’re so glad to bring back one of our own,” Monte Vista Athletic Director Craig Bergman said. “Nick brings great energy and passion to everything he does.”

Monte Vista varsity boys basketball went 20-9 this season and lost to Jones' Castro Valley team to end the season with a 69-60 loss.

Jones replaces MV coach Bill Powers, who resigned and had been the team's coach since 1998, the year Jones graduated.

In his four years at Castro Valley High, Jones' teams compiled a 99-22 record. In 2011, they won the North Coast Section title and played in the finals of the Northern California championship.
