It was a big win for the Mustangs men's soccer team Thursday.
It beat 2-1. The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 13-3-8 record, hopefully giving them a good seeding position for the post-season playoffs.
San Ramon Valley scored in the first 10 minutes of play but Monte Vista came back to score two goals before the half ended. Jeff Greenberg scored the equalizing goal and Casey Sbrana, with an assist from David Ehlers, gave Monte Vista the winning goal.
Defender Jack Peterson and goalkeepers Troy Galletly and Makay Redd gave the Mustangs the defensive edge they needed to hold the Wolves at bay.
From the Feb. 8 game
Monte Vista men's soccer lost to Cal 2-1. The Mustangs took the lead in the first 15 minutes but Cal came back and equalized the score right before halftime.
Cal scored midway through the second half and kept Monte Vista at bay. The win gave Cal the ability move into second place with 28 points in EBAL, San Ramon Valley tied Granada giving them sole possession of third with 26 points and Monte Vista dropped to fourth with 25 points.
The top four EBAL teams will be playing in the post-season playoffs.
