Traffic Advisory: Railroad Avenue Improvements Begin

Work begins this week on the Railroad Avenue Improvements project, the next in a series of projects occurring in downtown Danville this year. Crews have begun marking the location for trenching work necessary to move overhead utility lines underground, the first phase in a project expected  to last one year.

The project will enhance the Railroad Avenue corridor between Prospect Avenue and School Street, by undergrounding the utilities as well as installing brick-banded sidewalks, landscaped bulb-outs, and antique-style street lights.

Crews will be using a portion of the Railroad Avenue Municipal Parking Lot as a staging area for the work. An area of the parking lot south of the Farmers’ Market area has been fenced off for this use. In addition, northbound traffic on Railroad Avenue is shifted to the center lane for the duration of the work. Motorists are asked to use caution through the work area.

The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2015.
