Town Council to Consider Poultry Ordinance Tuesday Night

The council will take a look at the Planning Commission's recommendation to ban roosters and limit the number of poultry on residential lots.

Last month, the Planning Commission approved a recommendation to limit poultry and ban roosters on residential lots. Tuesday night, the Town Council will consider that recommendation for approval.

If approved, the town's current regulations would change to prohibit roosters on residential property and limit the number of hens to 20 or less on non-agricultural land.

At the meeting in April, city planners told the commission they recommended the changes after receiving a number of complaints from residents about roosters crowing in the morning as well as the smell, noise and disturbances caused by poultry on residential lots. They noted enforcement of the poultry ordinance has tripled in the past year.
