Throwback: The Silver Dollar Room

By Jane McInnis

This Thursday, plans for the Danville Hotel Territory design are up for review at Town Hall. While the town moves forward with the project, let's take a quick look back at the Silver Dollar Room.

The hotel was built in 1965 as part of an attempt to create a tourist attraction covering the block with frontier-style shops by owner Russell Glenn beginning in the 1950s.

"The shops were controversial as some of the residents thought it looked more like a carnival attraction than a historical building," reads a booklet written on the history of the Danville Hotel provided by the Museum of the San Ramon Valley.

Thursday's meeting begins at 5:30 in the conference room at Town Hall.
