Should Homes be Built on the Magee Ranch Property?

Let us know what you think of the plan to build 66 homes this season.

The Danville Planning Commission gave its endorsement to the SummerHill home development plan, which will build 66 homes near Diablo Road, on Tuesday, the Contra Costa Times reported.

The Planning Commission voted 5-1 in favor of the plan, with Paul Radich being the lone no vote. The Town Council is expected to vote on the plan in June.

The plan is facing some criticism.

Though homes will take up less than 10 percent of the 410 acres on the Magee Ranch property and won't be allowed on ridge tops, some residents in the area are concerned about traffic and some want Danville votes to decided if the project should be built or not.

Many speakers at the meeting Tuesday were concerned about traffic congestion, especially at the Diablo Road and Green Valley Road intersection.

Others, including Bob Nealis, who ran for Town Council last year, and Save Open Space Danville, would like voters to ultimately decide if home should be built on Magee Ranch. In 2000, Danville passed Measure S, which allows voters to decide if some projects are built or not.

Town officials say the land was already designated for residential development in the general plan, so no vote is required.

Save Mount Diablo is in favor of the plan, because homes would be built on less than 10 percent of the land.
