Morning with Mayor Addresses Economic Concerns

Mayor Doyle, along with Town Manager Joe Calabrigo, Police Chief Chris Wenzel and Fire Chief Richard Price, filled residents in on happenings in the town over the last month.

Danville, like other cities and towns across the country, has been hit by the recession. That topic was a hot issue at a public meeting with Mayor Mike Doyle, Town Manager Joe Calabrigo,  Police Chief Chris Wenzel and Fire Chief Richard Price Friday morning.

"I walk around and see vacancies at the Livery and Mercantile, which I have never seen in the 20 years I have been with the town,"said Town Manager Joe Calabrigo. "But it is a better picture than I think a lot of local governments are dealing with right now."

Calabrigo noted that sales tax revenues in Danville are down 13 percent.

Mayor Mike Doyle assured residents that the town is in good financial shape for the next two years, compared with an estimated 70 percent of cities and towns across the state that are "on their way to financial bankruptcy."

"Twenty years ago we began putting money away each and every year, and that has served us well during the last two years," said Mayor Doyle.
