Vehicle Fire on Northbound I-680 Cleared

A vehicle fire on northbound I-680 brought traffic to halt on Wednesday afternoon.

A vehicle fire on northbound Interstate Highway 680 near the Walnut Creek-Alamo boarder blocked lanes this afternoon, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District dispatcher said.

The fire was reported at 1:57 p.m. near the North Rudgear Road off-ramp and traffic was backed up through San Ramon.

As of 2:45 p.m., fire crews had cleared the scene.

The California Highway Patrol said fire units responded, briefly shutting down at least two lanes. All northbound lanes were back open by 2:55 p.m.
