Mother, 13-Year-Old Daughter Shot to Death Inside Pleasanton Home

Police say a mother and daughter were shot to death inside their Stacey Court home Monday evening.

A Pleasanton woman and her 13-year-old daughter, rumored to be a student, were shot and killed inside their Stacey Court home on Monday evening, police said.

Officers arrived at the home around 6 p.m. and found 37-year-old Amy Freeman Burton dead inside the home from a gunshot wound, Police Lt. Jeff Bretzing said at a press briefing in front of the home around 11:45 p.m. Monday night.

Her daughter, Ainsly Freeman, had also been shot but was alive. She was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where she later died, Bretzing said.

Bretzing said he could not comment on the shooting other than to say Freeman Burton's husband made the grisly discovery and called 911. He is not a suspect and is not in custody, but is a "person of interest," Bretzing said.

Though police have not found the handgun used in the killings, Bretzing said there is no reason to think there is a murderer on the loose.
