Tips for a Safe Holiday

Danville police offer advice to protect you and your home against theft.

In the final days before Christmas, Danville residents will either be busy downtown or at the mall shopping, or they will be getting ready to head out of town. The Danville Police Department has some tips to keep you and your home safe from theft while you shop and travel this holiday season.

When shopping, Danville PD suggests the following:

  • Stay alert and be aware of what’s going around on around you.
  • Park in well-lighted areas.
  • Put shopping bags and gifts in the trunk.
  • Be aware of your purse and wallet, especially when in crowds.
  • Only carry a minimal amount of credit cards when out shopping.
  • Avoid carrying large amount of cash with you.

  • Put lights on an automatic timer.
  • Have the mail and newspapers stopped.
  • Ask a neighbor to watch your house.
  • Make sure all doors and windows are locked.
