Teen Who Crashed in Danville After Allegedly Leading Police on Chase Dies
Michael Holden was taken to the hospital after the May 6 crash and died three days later.
A 19-year-old Concord man who crashed on Interstate Highway 680 in Danville last week after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen car has died, a Contra Costa County coroner's deputy said today.
Michael Holden died on May 9, three days after the deadly crash that occurred while he was allegedly fleeing police in Highway 680, authorities said. Holden was allegedly driving recklessly and sped away from a Concord police sergeant who tried to stop him on Monument Boulevard near Highway 680 in Concord around 10:30 p.m. May 6, according to Concord police Lt. David Hughes.
The suspect allegedly fled onto southbound Highway 680 where he continued to evade the officer at speeds of up to 100 mph for about 10 miles, according to police.
On Highway 680 near El Cerro Boulevard, Holden lost control of the car, which went off the roadway and struck a guardrail before overturning near La Gonda Way in Danville, police said.
Emergency responders transported Holden to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police say Holden was driving a car stolen out of Walnut Creek during the chase. Investigators from the CHP, Contra Costa District Attorney's Office, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office and Concord police are looking into the incident.
