UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Connection with Sexual Attack at Park

Danville Police arrested a suspect in connection with the incident involving a 14-year-old girl at Diablo Vista Park Thursday night.

Tips from residents led Danville Police to arrest a 66-year-old man in connection with a sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl reported at Thursday evening.

Danville Police Lieutenant Jeff Moule said during an investigation in the neighborhood around the park, several residents recognized the description of the suspect, which led them to a home where they found a man identified as Natesan Arumugam. 

Arumugam, an Indian national visiting relatives in Danville, was taken into custody and charged with sexual battery, lewd and lascivious acts with a child and annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.

Moule said the girl was approached around 8:30 p.m., near the tennis courts at . 

The victim told police she was at the park walking past the tennis courts when a man grabbed her and "touched her chest in an inappropriate way," police said.

The victim pushed the suspect away and then ran to her family's car. The suspect fled into a wooded area east of the park, police said.

Moule said he was very pleased with the level of citizen cooperation police received in the operation.

“We got a lot of help from neighborhood residents,” he said. “The tips we received helped us achieve a speedy resolution to this investigation.”

Arumugam is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $125,000 bail.
