Police to Patrol DUI Checkpoints this 4th of July Weekend

Danville Police will be participating in the Avoid the 25 DUI campaign during the holiday weekend.

It's never wise to drink and drive, and this 4th of July weekend, Danville Police are reminding people to pick a designated driver.

The Danville Police Department will be joining with other agencies in the Avoid the 25 DUI Campaign, to crack down on impaired driving starting Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 3 from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Funding for the program, that includes 25 Contra Costa County law enforcement agencies, is through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI patrols in Danville over the holiday weekend will supplement the regular police patrols already scheduled, and will focus on areas with high incidents of DUI collisions and arrests.

Police Chief Steve Simpkins said it all comes down to good common sense: “If you’re going to be drinking at whatever celebration you attend, don’t get behind the wheel afterwards.”
