Neighborhood Evacuated, Man Arrested After Pipe Bombs Found

Eric Dennis of Danville was arrested Sunday on a charge of possessing three homemade pipe bombs and other bomb-making materials on the 200 block of Amigo Road in Danville.

Police were still on the scene in the neighborhood around 203 Amigo Road in Danville Monday, after Danville police and the Walnut Creek police bomb squad found three homemade pipe bombs and bomb-making materials there Sunday.

A woman who answered the door at the home Monday refused to comment. A neighbor, who did not want to give her name, said she was "surprised that there would be pipe bombs across the street," and that is was "unsettling."

Police were questioning people in the backyard of the home on Amigo Road late Monday morning.

Bay Area News Group reports that Eric Dennis, 36, of Danville, who was arrested on a charge of possessing the pipe bombs, was near eviction by the home's longtime owner. The report also said that Dennis had a prior criminal record including theft, and probation violations for weapons and drugs.

Danville police initially responded Sunday morning to a verbal disturbance in the neighborhood and learned that the argument involved Dennis, who they say had three pipe bombs.

Police found Dennis in possession of the homemade pipe bombs and a small amount of materials that could be used to make more pipe bombs.

The Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad assisted, and surrounding neighbors were evacuated briefly while the bomb squad investigated. 

The bomb squad detonated the pipe bombs in the street, and Dennis was arrested and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of possession of a destructive device and possession of  materials to make a destructive device. He is being held on a $650,000 bond.
