National Night Out Set For August 7

Event an opportunity for residents to meet law enforcement

Residents of Danville are reminded to set Aug. 7, 2012 on their calendars as a night to get out and meet their neighbors during the National Night Out. 

Introduced in 1984, the National Night Out is an evening set aside to heighten awareness in neighborhoods and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts.

National Night Out is held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Citizens are encouraged to set up block parties, get to know their neighbors and enjoy the evening. Police Chief Steve Simpkins and other members of the Danville Police Department will be out visiting block parties that have registered with the PD. 

 “We hope this opportunity strengthens neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships,” said Police Chief Steve Simpkins. “Events like this send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
