Homeowner Foils Attempted Burglary, Suspects Escape

Police are asking for the community's help, as they search for suspects in connection with an attempted home burglary last Thursday.

A woman prevented a burglary at her home on Lusitano Street in unincorporated Danville last Thursday morning, and police are asking for the community's help to get more information about the crime.

The 18-year-old woman reported a stranger rang her home's doorbell several times at about 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, according to police.

She didn't open the door to her home on the 2000 block of Lusitano Street, and several minutes later she heard repeated knocking at her door. Police said she then heard glass break and found he rear sliding glass door was shattered.

The woman then ran outside the front door and was pepper-sprayed in the face.

Nothing was taken from the home and the woman was treated by paramedics for the pepper-spray injuries.

Police say two or three suspects —described as black males, aged 19-27 years old, about 5’7” - 5’10”, of thin build and bald headed — were involved in the attempted burglary. See attached sketch of one of the suspects.

The men may have been driving a black Mercedes Benz GL550 with paper plates with “Berkeley” in red lettering, police said.
