Fire Officials: Vegetation Fire in Danville Sparked by Weed Abatement

San Ramon Valley Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire located on Dolphin Drive in Danville yesterday, Thursday May 29, 2014 at 12:41 p.m. Three fire engines, two wildland fire engines, on paramedic ambulance, three chief officers and one fire investigator were called to the scene.

Crews from Station 33 were first on scene and arrived to find tall dry native grasses burning between homes. Crews began an aggressive offensive attack and had the fire under control in less than 20 minutes. The fire burned a little under an acre.  

One resident was home at the time of the fire, the fire was sparked during abatement efforts on the property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No structures were affected. No injuries reported.

“While it is important to maintain the dry vegetation around our homes, it is equally important to do it properly”, said Christina Kiefer, Fire Marshal. “We want people to be aware of the weather conditions and to avoid cutting grasses when the weather is hot and/or windy.  We want property owners to cut grasses in the morning hours when the moisture content is highest, typically before 10 a.m.”
