Driver Strikes Fire Hydrant on Diablo Rd. Launching Water Straight Up (VIDEO)

A driver struck a fire hydrant Friday afternoon in front of the Unocal Station on Diablo Road, sending water streaming into the air.

It was a scene right out of a movie when a car struck a fire hydrant in front of a gas station at 198 Diablo Road, shooting water up several feet into the air.

Don't worry, though, no one was injured. Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins told Danville Patch Friday evening that it was a traffic collision with no extenuating circumstances, such as a DUI, and no one was injured.

Danville Patch reader Dave Morris was able to catch the geyser with his phone.

He sent us the video with this description of the incident:

I was getting gas at the Unocal Station and watched a lady in the red SUV drive away. Just as she got to the driveway to exit onto Diablo Road a police officer drove through the parking lot to exit as well.

It appeared to me that she was a bit startled ... she cut the corner to close and ran across the hydrant. It sounded like she had blown a tire and a few seconds later the water was became a full strength geyser.
