Ex-Cop Tied to 'Dirty DUI' Scandal Begins Trial

Stephen Tanabe was arrested in March 2011 in connection with three alleged "dirty DUI" arrests in Danville.

(BAY CITY NEWS) -- Opening statements are scheduled to begin in federal court in San Francisco at 2:15 p.m. today in the trial of former Contra Costa County sheriff's Deputy Stephen Tanabe, who faces several charges in connection with three alleged "dirty DUI" arrests in Danville in 2010 and 2011.
           
The trial is in the court of U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer on the 17th floor of the Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Ave.

Tanabe faces one county of conspiring to deprive others of his honest services; three counts of wire fraud; and three counts of committing extortion under color of official right when he allegedly received cocaine
and a Glock gun from former private investigator Christopher Butler in
payment for the arrests.
