On Monday, the held a swearing-in ceremony for its two newest police officers -- Mike Tegeler and Lauren Vance -- within the chambers of the Dixon City Council.
The duo brings almost 25 years of law enforcement experience to Dixon. Before coming to Dixon, Tegeler served as a Contra Costa County Sheriff's Deputy assigned to the City of Danville.
"I worked at a larger agency with the sheriff's department, so I'm just looking forward to the small town, smaller community type of situation," Tegeler said. "It's a lot closer to my home too, so I think I can get more involved that way also."
Vance served as a police officer with the Clearlake Police Department before becoming a Dixon Police officer. With the hiring of Vance and Tegeler, the Dixon Police Department has filled 24 of its 25 sworn police officer positions (with one position frozen due to budget cuts) said Dixon Police Chief Jon Cox.
"They are both experienced officers and we are very fortunate to get them to Dixon," Cox said. "It's just great to have some diversity here, with bringing in another female officer on, which is critical in my opinion."
The department is currently hiring one more position and has an individual undergoing the hiring process who should be hired within four weeks or more Cox said.
Monday's swearing-in ceremony was flush with friends and family of the two officers. Mayor Jack Batchelor, Councilman Thom Bogue, Dixon's new City Manager Jim Lindley and several police and city staff members were also in attendance to welcome the officers.
"They both have a promising career ahead of them and we are excited to have them here," Cox said.
Monday's swearing in ceremony was followed by a reception at the Dixon Police Department.
