Contra Costa DUI Task Force Gets $135k Grant
Motorists can expect DUI checkpoints during the winter and summer holidays, sheriff's officials said.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to help fund the Avoid the 25 DUI Task Force to continue to combat impaired driving, sheriff's officials said.
The grant, totaling $135,500, will allow the DUI task force to conduct the DUI enforcement campaigns through Sept. 30, 2014, according to sheriff's officials. It began Oct. 1.
Enforcement campaigns allow the 25 law enforcement agencies countywide to target anyone getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking too much or using drugs. It also targets repeat offenders with warrants, officials said.
Motorists can expect DUI checkpoints during the winter and summer holidays, as well as certain days, such as Halloween, Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo, sheriff's officials said.
The DUI checkpoints have helped reduce alcohol-related crashes, according to officials.
