In an interview with the Bay Area News Group,  Schierholtz's brother Nate, who is on the road with the Giants, said that he was "shocked," and that he would "stick by him and support him to get the counseling he needs."

On Sunday, Aug. 1 at about 10 a.m. police said Schierholtz drove his red Dodge pickup along Danville Boulevard and Railroad Avenue, hitting a bicyclist, pedestrian, a truck, an SUV and a light pole. There were no major injuries.

Witness Jane Joyce, who lives nearby where the arrest happened, said one of the crash victims parked his truck on Montair Drive by Macomber Road to block Schierholtz's exit from a dead-end at Macomber.

By the time Schierholtz had turned his vehicle around toward the exit, several other people had converged in the area, Joyce said. She said Schierholtz's truck airbag had deployed and he appeared to be pinned inside his car, but was somehow still driving.

Schierholtz is a graduate of San Ramon Valley High and lives in San Ramon. He works at Bridges restaurant. Employees there declined to comment on the case.
