Arrests by Danville PD: Stolen Bike Found at Pawn Shop and Check Forgery

Police made two arrests Tuesday: a Bay Point man in connection with a stolen bicycle and an Oakland woman in connection with a check forgery.

Danville police detective work led to the arrest of two East Bay residents Tuesday in separate theft cases.

Police Chief Steve Simpkins said the first arrest was made in connection with a $3,000 bike .

After the theft, the owner saw the bike for sale on eBay and detectives tracked it down at a San Francisco pawn shop. Police then found the person who pawned the bike. Police arrested Bay Point resident Nicholas Stewart, 29, on suspicion of possession of stolen property. Stewart was booked at the Martinez jail.

“That’s good police work," Simpkins said. "Our detectives continue to send a message to criminals that Danville is not the place to come and commit crimes."

The second arrest came from a tip from in Danville when a customer reported a check was stolen in San Lorenzo.

The stolen check was deposited in Danville and the funds were used to withdraw cash. After detectives searched the Oakland home of Robbie Smith, 23, he was arrested on charges of forgery, identity theft and burglary and booked at the Martinez jail.
