Albany Police Investigating Death of Woman Found on Bulb

The County Coroner has not yet released a cause of death.

Albany police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old woman found earlier in the month near a homeless encampment on the Albany Bulb.

Officers found the body of Jane D. Owens on the morning of Feb. 7 after receiving a tip by telephone from someone on the Bulb, according to Karina Tindol, Albany Police Department's community engagement specialist.

Tindol said that the County Coroner has not yet ruled on the cause of death. She said that Owens is from the Bay Area, but could not be more specific because of the ongoing investigation.

Tindol reckoned that the transient population living on the Bulb ranges from 50 to 100 people.

Here's a small update. I called the county coroner today to see if the toxicology report was in. It is. However, on March 13, Albany PD put a "press hold" on the report, which means that all queries have to go through the police department. I called the PD and left a message. For the relatives of Jane on this thread, I'm not certain that the hold applies to family.

Gil, it is good to hear your words. Jane was very proud of her ballet career. It was a cruel punishment of Judy's to pull her out of dance. I always felt Judy just couldn't stand to see happy. Jane longed for love. She wanted nothing more than to build her own family to make up for the failure her mother was. Jane was my dear friend and I miss her.

Here is the latest: The County Coroner has a cause of death, but doesn't want to release the information to anybody other than Jane's family members. So I was hoping that one of Jane's family members on this comments thread either already knows or can find out from the County Coroner if Jane's Death was a suicide or a homicide, and would be willing to email me with that information, so as the residents of the Albany Bulb can have some sense of our own safety (or lack thereof) and where to go next in our processing of the loss of our friend and neighbor Jane. My email address is: phlamber.the.bull@gmail.com. Our thoughts are with you all and also with Jane. May she truly rest in peace. <3
